Do you have the guts to stand up for your beliefs?
I was holding a notice from my 13-year-old son’s school announcing a meeting to preview the new course in sexuality. Parents could examine the curriculum and take part in an actual lesson presented exactly as it would be given to the students. When I arrived at the school, I was surprised to discover only about a dozen parents there. As we waited for the presentation, I thumbed through page after page of instructions in the prevention of pregnancy or disease. I found abstinence mentioned only in passing.
When the teacher arrived with the school nurse, she asked if there were any questions. I asked why abstinence did not play a noticeable part in the material. What happened next was shocking.
I came across this article while “Stumbling” the other night. It got me thinking. While I totally agree with Mr. Layton, I have to ask myself, “Would I have the guts to stand up for my belief in the same situation?”
This is one of the reasons I’m looking at homeschooling Andrew. Maybe not next year, and maybe not the next, but definitely before I have to worry about stuff like this. Then again, maybe I’m supposed to attend these parent meetings and just stand up for what is right instead of pulling him out.
I don’t know, but I can honestly say I really don’t know if I’d have the guts to say anything. I’d like to think if the opportunity presented itself I would.
Would you?
By the way, you can read the rest of the article here.

Yep I would have asked too. I am not beyond speaking up for what I believe to be right, especially where my children, my momma, and my man are concerned.

I just finished the rest of the article and it was a powerful lesson, moreso than I bet the teacher expected! I agree with asking the question of why abstinance wasn’t mentioned but I do agree that the morals need to come from the home.
