Andrew was so excited to start school today. He didn’t even give me any grief getting up and getting ready. (I know that won’t last long, but I’ll enjoy it while it does. LOL) We got to school on time, miracle of all miracles. He bounced in all smiles.
I told him good-bye. He frowned. He pleaded with his eyes.
“Mom, can’t you stay just for a little while.”
After I explained to him that no I couldn’t do that, while trying to hide my own tears, I left. I shouldn’t have looked back. I almost took him back home with me. :)
Thankfully they decided to have an early day today, so I picked him up about 1:30. He was so happy to see me, as I was him. He told me he had a “great first day of second grade.” He missed me, but he had a good day. Then enthusiastically announced, “And guess what, Mom?!? No homework!”
I hope I don’t cry every year on the first day. I was so ready for him to go back. But once he was gone, I didn’t quite know what to do with myself.
